-According to this obviously biased site, when should people stick with Windows?
There is propreitary software you cant live without. Your a hardcore gamer. You work in the book printing industry. Or when your hardware is not yet supported.
-Which are the three most compelling reasons to migrate to Linux, according to the web site ? Elaborate on each.
1. To forget about viruses. Viruses are very bad for computers and can completely ruin your hardrive. If there is anyway of preventing then from getting into your computer it is customary that you do so.
2. So you can copy your software for free and also have it be legal. Copying software is not a good idea if it is illegal. Why get into trouble for something that you can do for free and also have it be legal. If you run Linux and install free software, you won't have to worry about this ever again! Most of free software is free. You can find a free replacement for most of the commercial software out there. They might lack some of the advanced functionnality, but they'll be more than enough for most people.
3. Save 300 dollars for your operating system. You can get Linux completely free of charge. That's right, all these guys all around the world worked very hard to make a neat, secure, efficient, good-looking system, and they are giving their work away for everybody to use freely.

-How does the situation today compare with what happened at the library of Alexandria?
It is commonly agreed that the destruction of the ancient Library of Alexandria in Egypt was one of the most devastating losses of knowledge in all of civilization. Today, however, the digital information that drives our world and powers our economy is in many ways more susceptible to loss than the papyrus and parchment at Alexandria.
-Give a summary of the article and your own feelings as to whether the American government should invest money in this project.
To begin, my feelings on this article is that the governemt should not invest money on this project, instead of wasting money on technology the government shoud use money for more "universal" problems. For example, global warming, the homeless, or children that go to bed hungry. Those are things that money should be spent on, in my opinion.
Honestly, I think that if people wanted there internet websites to be looked at in the future for information to be used in something like a biography then they would have saved it. But obiously if they made a new one and deleated that information they dont want it being used anymore. It is none of the governments, let alone anyones business what people deleate from the internet if they published it. Minds do change.

day 4 question...
1. What are Internet cookies?
Cookies provide capabilities that make the Web much easier to navigate. The designers of almost every major site use them because they provide a better user experience and make it much easier to gather accurate information about the site's visitors.
2. What are packets?
It turns out that everything you do on the Internet involves packets. For example, every Web page that you receive comes as a series of packets, and every e-mail you send leaves as a series of packets. Networks that ship data around in small packets are called packet switched networks. A typical packet contains perhaps 1,000 or 1,500 bytes.
3. What route do packets take over the Internet?
Each packet is then sent off to its destination by the best available route -- a route that might be taken by all the other packets in the message or by none of the other packets in the message. This makes the network more efficient. First, the network can balance the load across various pieces of equipment on a millisecond-by-millisecond basis. Second, if there is a problem with one piece of equipment in the network while a message is being transferred, packets can be routed around the problem, ensuring the delivery of the entire message.
4. What is a 404 error on the web?
The 404 or Not Found error message is an HTTP standard responce code indicating that the client was able to communicate with the server, but either the server could not find what was requested, or it was configured not to fulfill the request and not reveal the reason why. 404 errors should not be confused with "server not found" or similar errors, in which a connection to the destination server cannot be made at all.
5. What is 'e-commerce'?
Electronic Commerce is exactly analogous to a marketplace on the Internet. Electronic Commerce consists primarily of the distributing, buying, selling, marketing and servicing of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks.
6. What is the difference between ebay and craigslist?
Craigslist is categorized by different areas while you don't know where the products are coming from on ebay.
7. What is SSL?
Short for Secure Sockets Layer, a protocall developed by Netscape for transmitting private documents via the Internet. SSL uses a cryptograph system that uses two keys to encryp data − a public key known to everyone and a private or secret key known only to the recipient of the message.
8. What are the two major ways for home users to connect to the Internet via a high speed connection?
DSL and Broadband.
9. What is a T-1 line?
T1 line, it means that the phone company has brought a fiber optic line. A T1 line can carry 24 digitized voice channels, or it can carry data at a rate of 1.544 megabits per second. If the T1 line is being used for telephone conversations, it plugs into the office's phone system. If it is carrying data it plugs into the network's router.
A T1 line can carry about 192,000 bytes per second -- roughly 60 times more data than a normal residential modem. It is also extremely reliable -- much more reliable than an analog modem. Depending on what they are doing, a T1 line can generally handle quite a few people.

CNN money.com ... 2 summaries.
http://money.cnn.com/2007/05/06/news/economy/gasoline/index.htm?postversion=2007050706
Gas prices are rediculously over priced. $3.07 per gallon is an outrage. Last month there was "substantial evidence" that gas prices would fall, but a series of "incidents" at a dozen refineries worldwide led the price to reverse course. In some cases, refineries began scheduled maintenance, but in other cases they experienced accidents that led some to shut down entirely and others to limit their capacity. The city with the lowest average price found in the latest survey was Charleston, S.C., where a gallon of self-serve regular cost $2.80, the survey found. The highest average was $3.49 in San Francisco.
http://money.cnn.com/2007/05/06/news/funny/spidermanweekend.reut/index.htm?postversion=2007050615
The film set a single-day record with Friday sales of $59.3 million, beating the $55.8 million record also held by the "Pirates" sequel. "Spider-Man 3" has sold an estimated $375 million worth of tickets worldwide, since opening internationally on May 1. The first "Spider-Man," in 2002, started off with a then-record $114.8 million, and finished with $403.7 million. Two years later, "Spider-Man 2" totaled $373 million; it opened on a Wednesday, making weekend comparisons difficult. Pascal said she hoped to hit $400 million with the new film. Spider-Man gets to explore his dark side, thanks to some extraterrestrial black goo that infects his personality, and to combat three villains, played by series veteran James Franco and newcomers Thomas Haden Church and Topher Grace. His nerdy alter ego must also fight to keep Mary Jane.

3 colleges
http://www.flagler.edu/
I am interested in Flagler College because it is a Gallaudet University Regional Center. I would really like to persue a career of speech pathology or ESE education and I really feel that Flager can do that for me.

I am interested in attending UCF because its still in Florida but im also still away. I absolutley love everything about disney and wouldn't mind being surrounded by it.
http://www.fkcc.edu/
I would love to go to college in the Keys, I would be able to have fun but still pursue my goals. I think the Keys in beautiful and the school is on a "personal" level, where the clases are small and I will always have access to need to know information. I think it would be a good experience.

More video games, fewer books at schools?
I think its rediculous and pathetic that today's society is not able to learn from books, that we have to play video games. In my opinion most students wont take learning serious anymore, its going to be considered a joke. Kids are just lazy and its being rewarded, what about the strudents that actually want to learn and want to go to a good college, tey arent going to learn what they need to know by playing video games. Its not a fair sitaution.

2 questions from stories..
Was the developers' behavior ethical?
The behavior ethical of the developer is that he is a liar and just trying to take advantage of a poor old women and some money off her.
Its sad where some peoples priority and moindset is now a days...
How can this be avoided in the future?
This situation can be somewhat prevented but not compleately ignored. People always have a way around the system. It has to re-evaluated on how things are handled so it can be more prevented next time.

Alice and Wonderland
Walt Disney's "Alice and Wonderland" came out in 1951. It was based on the Lewis Carrol book "Alice" It is about a girl on an Acid trip and all the obsticles she faced while on her "trip." This movie is my favorite movie because it deals with a lot of random ecounters. Overall, Alice in Wonderland is a good movie. I just wish that there was more to the "real-world" frames to the story, as in the time Alice was with her big sister and Dinah. The opening scenes could've used more impact on the main idea, while the closing scenes shouldn't have been so abrupt. During her trip. More thankfully for everyone, the movie had a happy ending. But I thought it was funny, but I too felt that the story need a little more polishing. While I'm against the recent round of sequels Disney has been making, I'm a little curious of what they have planned for Alice in Wonderland. But as Alice said in the movie: "Curiosity often leads to trouble. "Many kids have grown up on this Disney version of Alice in Wonderland, and it'll still be that way for years to come. Again, despite the hatred this movie has gotten for more than 50 years, I still like it.
In conclusion, Alice, and Wonderland is my favorite movie for more reason then one. I love the whole plot of the movie. My favorite character is the hooka smoking caterpiller! I think he is really funny and has a good impact on the movie.

I think that a way to make students more interested in school would be to change things around. Everyday we do the same things over and over, the bell rings at the same time and we go to the same classes. Ever since elementary school it always been that way. Sciene, social studies, math, and english every year for 12 years. I think if we were able to pick our own classes and had motivations for them more students would pass highschool and graduate. More students would be apt to want to come to school.

XM and Sirus
Is satellite radio going to make it?
Yea I think it will make it. Its has a lot of benifits includng no comercials, and the satelite radio has categories and plays the most popular songs in each category.
Will the merger hurt or help the industry?
I think that the merger will help the company. The reason I have to support this is that if the companies corrispond with eachother then they can help eachother with there flaws and help make it more benifitial for others to invest in the company. Hence better service, more consumers.
Will the merger hurt or help consumers?
Yea i think that it would aswell be benifitial to the consumers because people like it when they dont have to listen to comercials and if the companies corrispond with eachother then they will have more money and not have to have as many sponsers, if any and that way they wont have comercials.

1. "When it is more important to be seen than to be talented, it is hardly surprising that the less gifted among us are willing to fart our way into the spotlight." - Lakshmi Chaudhry. What is your reaction?
My reaction to this statement is that its true, for somebody to think that just by putting a random picture of themselves on the internet will make them famous is stupid.
I think that you should ahve to work for where you stand you life and not just be able to slide your way into fame and fortune.
2. What would you do if someone took a compromising picture of you and posted it on the Internet? Should people have a right to say if they don't want a picture online?
I would be really upset, and feel violated. I definatly think that if someone takes a picture of you without consent and furthermore posts it on the internet, they should suffer major consequences. Ii I wanted a picture of myself on the internet I would put it there, there is no reason why somebody else should get to decide if MY picture goed on the internet.
3. Is the "truly private life" an illusion? Why or why not?
Yes, i strongley believe that a "truely private life" is an illusion on the internet. So many people are very computer literate and find out whatever they want about whoever they want, and by having a "life" on the internet your not making it very hard for somebody to find what they want about you. You are more prone to be stalked, raped, phisically hurt, or even die, if you think you life is "truly private" on the internet.
4. What does the author mean by the "Creolization of media"?
Shirky describes this generational shift in terms of pidgin versus Creole. “Do you know that distinction? Pidgin is what gets spoken when people patch things together from different languages, so it serves well enough to communicate. But Creole is what the children speak, the children of pidgin speakers. They impose rules and structure, which makes the Creole language completely coherent and expressive, on par with any language. What we are witnessing is the Creolization of media.” which in my opinion means that this generation is learning at a young age what is right and wrong, but stil do what is wrong. We expres ourselves way t mush on the internet, and give wakos easy axses to know who you are.
5. “Things that were not silly. I tried to make my posts highly stylized and short, about things I would imagine people would want to read or comment on.”- I've wondered this about websites like reddit.com. Could the same be said for newspapers?
I think that most people would agree on the fact that things that people would persay comment on or really thoughouly read, are somethings to consider for a newspaper. It is now geared towards older people, not nessesarilly teens, I think that if it was geared toward teens they would be more aware what is goin on in the world, rather then being so nieve and dumbfounded.
6. "When she worked at American Apparel, management posted encouraging remarks on employee MySpace pages." Personally, I find this weird. What do you think?
I think that it is weired, people that work in the buisness world dont need to be worrying about somebodys myspace , and commenting persuading remarks to keep it going. It's none of there buisness. That just shows that there mind isnt fully on there job, but more the women that work there.
7. Iamfacingforeclosure.com is a site written by an idiot. Acknowledge he is an idiot for getting in so much trouble with money.
8. What is your reaction to the article? Did you enjoy it?
I enjoyed the article, i thought it was very informing and helpful to what is happening on the internet with young people.

an example of a Satire move would be "Borat" this is because it makes fun of a man who is coming to America, and trying to "fit in" the movie makes him look like an idiot.

graigs list
1. I really dont think ill use craigs list, i prefer E-Bay.
2. the best thing about it is that the guy doesn't make money off of it, which shows that he is trying to make things on the computer compleate scams, but then again who really knows what goes on on the internet. =/
3. I think it could be improved, i think that the scams on it need to be more monitored so that they dont happen as often, i think that would help with the amount of people that visit the site, and think about using it.
